Anderson Silva-Roy Jones? Boxing Legend All For It

Boxing legend Roy Jones, Jr. has signed to box in Russia this December against Zine Eddine Benmakhlouf, just days before Anderson Silva faces Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight title at UFC 168.

Jones was in attendance the last time Silva fought, seeing him fall to Weidman and drop his belt in the process.

However, it sounds as if both sides remain interested in putting a fight together between boxer and MMA fighter – as Jones recently told ESPN.

“I want to be ready for Anderson Silva in case he beats Weidman,” Jones said. “Silva has made it clear that if he wins, he wants me next. I’m here for him. That’s a fight that intrigues a lot of people, but I can’t fight Anderson Silva coming off such a long layoff.

“So I needed to get a fight first. If it wasn’t for Anderson Silva calling me out, I wouldn’t be fighting this fight.”

Jones, who is 44 years old, hasn’t boxed since June when he defeated Pawel Glazewski to improve to 56-8. He was scheduled to meet Bobby Gunn this month, but that bout is now off.
