Dominick Cruz’s Return Pushed Back at Least Six Months

Dominick Cruz’s recovery has hit a huge stumbling block, as it turns out the UFC bantamweight champion had to go under the knife a second time to fix his knee. Apparently, Cruz had both his ACL and MCL replaced but his body rejected the ACL and he had to have it done a second time.

UFC President Dana White recently said he was going to have Renan Barao defend his interim title, and it looks like that will definitely have to happen in the wake of Cruz’s status.

Cruz’s trainer, Eric Del Fierro, recently explained Cruz is going to the doctors today to get estimate on the recovery time.

Eric Del Fierro told MMAJunkie:

“He’s pissed and disappointed. But I think he’s doing better now. Once he talked to the doctor and found out what was going on, he felt much better.” … The trainer said Cruz’s training was advancing with the approval of his doctor and physical therapist, but he had not been cleared to prepare for a fight.

There has been no comment from the UFC as to their plans with the division.
