"The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale" Adds Kyle Watson vs. Sako Chivitchian and Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan

It’s become somewhat of a tradition to have a series of eleventh-hour fight announcements for an upcoming “Ultimate Finale” event that features some of the fighters from the latest season of the popular ufc reality TV show “The Ultimate Fighter”. In that vein, the UFC has recently announced a pair of fights for their upcoming “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale” event. According to one source, one of the bouts will even make the main card and feature a certain former WEC championship contender. Here are all the details.
MMA Weekly first brings word that Kyle Watson will be taking on Sako Chivitchian at the upcoming December 4 card. Both men have one common and unfortunate uniting factor: they both lost to eventual finalist Jonathan Brookins. Watson famously made it all the way to the semi-finals before he lost to Brookins, while Chivitchian succumbed to a Rear Naked Choke in the quarter-finals of the event. According to additional reports, this fight won’t be making the main card and will be on the prelims.
However, MMA Weekly has seemingly confirmed that another TUF 12 fighter will be taking a main card slot, as it was recently confirmed that Nam Phan would face former WEC Featherweight Championship contender Leonard Garcia in a key Featherweight showdown that would indeed make the main card. Phan was the lone fighter of Season 12’s Team Josh Koscheck to make it to the semi-finals before losing to finalist Michael Johnson. Garcia has been brought back into the “TUF 12 Finale” fold after a bout with Tyler Toner ended up getting nixed.
I’m really looking forward to both of these matches. I think Watson vs. Chivitchian will set a very brisk pace, and we’ll see a lot of constant action from both men. “MMA Math” favors Watson due to the fact that he lasted longer against Brookins, but as I’ve said in the past, I’m a firm doubter of that little school of thought. As I see it, this fight is going to be a toss-up and should be pretty entertaining. Here’s hoping it makes the main card if some of those fights ends early.
Garcia vs. Phan honestly has the potential to steal the entire show if both men come out swinging for the fences. I think Phan has a great chin and some amazing punches, especially to the body, but then again, there truly is only one Leonard Garcia. Garcia is the embodiment of a fighter that will take two to give one, there’s not a fiber of quit in him and he’s got one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen. If it turns into a wild brawl, we’ll see both men back in the Octagon sooner rather than later, no matter who wins. Their performance at this event should almost guarantee a return to the UFC. It’s going to be a very exciting fight.
