Since deciding to drop down to welterweight, former 185-pound contender Demian Maia has looked extremely sharp en route to opening round wins in both of his bouts. However, while Maia may have found the division best suited to his skills and size, upcoming opponent Jon Fitch sees the Brazilian’s streak ending in February when the two face off at UFC 156.
Fitch recently spoke about the match-up with Maia where his respect for the submission-specialist was clear, as was Fitch’s confidence about coming out of the clash with his hand raised.
“He’s really a monster at 170. I was surprised at how big he was down in Rio.”
“It will be an interesting matchup. I haven’t created too much of a game plan, but I think I’ll overwhelm him with everything that I bring to the table.”
