Josh Barnett Fighting Nandor Guelmino at Strikeforce: Champions

While everyone has been running around wondering what is going to become of Strikeforce after Strikeforce: Champions, heavyweight Josh Barnett has been telling anyone who would listen that he would be fighting on the January card. It turns out the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix finalist wasn’t blowing smoke either, as it was revealed today that Barnett (31-6) will be squaring off against Strikeforce newcomer Nandor Guelmino (11-3-1).

Guelmino is riding a seven-fight winning streak, having finished six of his opponents by submission and three by knockout. As of right now it is unclear if Barnett will head back to the UFC after the bout where he first made a name for himself, as the match-up marks his final fight on his Strikeforce contract.

MMAJunkie Reported:

Sources close to the fighters today revealed that  Barnett is targeted to meet fellow heavyweight Nandor Guelmino on the Showtime-televised main card of “Strikeforce: Champions.” The event, which features prelims on Showtime Extreme, takes place Jan. 12 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. It’s expected to be Strikeforce’s final event.

Steven – I think they will. Why else give him such a winnable fight?

The UFC would be silly to not bring Barnett over. He’s one of the best heavyweights in the sport.
