While many thought the January 12 Strikeforce show was sure to go the way of UFC 151 in terms of cancellation, the organization has announced two more bouts for the card. Gegard Mousasi (32-3-2) meets Mike Kyle (19-8-1) on the main card in a light heavyweight bout, and lightweight Ryan Couture (5-1) takes on K.J. Noons (11-5) on the lineup many expect to be Strikeforce’s swan song.
Couture will be looking to add to his three-fight winning streak in the bout against Noons and is coming off of a decision to Joe Duarte. Noons only fought once in 2012 and was beaten by Josh Thompson. In fact, fans would have to go back to December of 2011 for the last time Noons had his hand raised.
Meanwhile, Mousasi didn’t fight in 2012 at all after having surgery to repair a torn ACL. Mousasi is coming off of a decision win to Ovince St. Preux and hasn’t been beaten since 2010 against Muhammed Lawal. Meanwhile, Kyle was submitted in his last outing against Rafael Calvalcante, but the result was changed to a no contest when “Feijao” tested positive for PEDs.
The action will go down at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
