“Nick Diaz wants Georges St-Pierre or Anderson Silva” Says Cesar Gracie

Nick Diaz is hands down one of the most entertaining fighters to watch in the cage, and despite  how you scored his bout with Carlos Condit, fans are looking forward to seeing Nick back in the Octagon. His head coach Cesar Gracie talked all things Diaz earlier today, and with February right around the corner and NIck coming off of suspenson, everyone wants to know the future plans for the former Strikeforce welterweight champion. According to Gracie, they would fight either UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre or middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Gracie told MMAFighting:

We’re pushing for the GSP fight. That’s what we’re going to push for, GSP or Anderson Silva. That’s the two fights that interest us the most, and that’s the one’s we’re going for.

Dana White quickly shot the idea down of the Silva superfight a long time ago, but Gracie said a fight with Silva isn’t as crazy as everyone thinks.

“Anderson Silva’s people are into it. We’re into it. The fans, I think, would be into it. We’ve got convince Dana [White] about it now. Obviously the fight that makes sense to them, and I don’t disagree, is Anderson-GSP, and like I said, I would watch that fight. That would be great to watch. But let’s get real. If GSP just absolutely says no, then what? You can’t make a guy fight. That’s the thing. And Anderson, if they want to promote a superfight and if the stars align, I think Nick would be into it.”

What do you guys think? Can they give Diaz a crack at the welterweight title now?

On the sidenote first – Diaz lost, and he lost because Condit fought smart instead of playing into Nick’s strenghts. Call it “running away” if you want, it says more about your knowledge of MMA, and sports in general, than anything else.

On the subject, though, I say give him the fight! Diaz is a great striker, one of the best in my oppinion, but I doubt it’ll get him anywhere against Anderson Silva. That said, if anyone can verbally bully Silva into doing something wrong, it’ll probably be a Diaz brother.

I think you’re absolutely wrong; the vast majority of people don’t believe Nick lost his last fight, and the fact that 2 judges said Nick lost every round except the 3rd pretty much nullifies the decision; so Nick is a #1 contender. GSP really wants to fight Nick; that’s the fight he wants next AND he really doesn’t want to fight Anderson anytime soon, so we could see GSP vs Diaz. And, as Cesar said, Anderson’s people are down with the fight against Nick; so I’d say it’s likely we’ll be seeing one or the other.
