One of the more popular questions for journalist to ask fighters, is the interviewer will ask the athlete to pull a number out of his/her butt as to what percentage of other fighters they think are on performance enhancement drugs. Sure, they are the closest to the sport, more so than anyone, but it’s still just an educated guess. Dong Hyun Kim thinks the percentage of fighters using PEDs is big…really big! ‘Stun Gun’ thinks the number could be as high as 90%. That means when you see a UFC card with ten fights on it, 18 of the 20 fighters are on steroids. All sports have a problem when it comes to PEDs, but that number seems a little (a lot) high to most analysts watching the sport closely.
Kim told MFight:
While a lot of people believe doping tests work, just like a breathalyzer test you can get away with it by just controlling timing. Most of the steroids user just cycle and get by the tests. It’s almost like other athletes look down on you as an idiot if you don’t do steroids. It’s like non-users are bicyclists while steroid users are racing with motorcycles. But I am one of those “idiots” that don’t use performance enhancers. I would say 90% of UFC fighters use performance enhancers.
