After failed UFC debut, Alexandre Ferreira will drop down to the middleweight division

Alexandre Ferreira is thinking lighter these days.
After debuting in the UFC earlier this month, “Cacareco” has come to realize that a 5’7 stature will not match up well in a ultra-competitive light heavyweight division.
Riding a 7-fight win streak heading into his bout with former title challenger Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 122 in Oberhausen, Germany, Alex was met with a quick finish when the talented wrestler quickly thwarted an early takedown attempt by the Brazilian, jockeyed position, reigned down punches and elbows until the referee intervened, halting the bout half-way through the first round.
The state of the worlds largest organization is shaky to say the least. Don’t get it twisted, the company has never been more successful then it is today, however, with the new influx of WEC fighters into the UFC fold, many a fighter are now fighting for their jobs on a regular basis. Case in point, Gerald Harris who snapped a three-fight win streak inside the cage with a loss to prospect Maiquel Falcao at UFC 123 last Saturday. After the uninspired decision loss, Herald was released from the promotion on the heels of his first loss inside the octagon.
Ferreira, though, remains safe within the organization and will have another chance to prove his mettle when he returns to the cage.
“Cacareco will have another opportunity, maybe in February or March, and he’ll drop to middleweight”, said head trainer Rudimar Federigo of the Chute Boxe team.
While his debut left others wanting more from the Brazilian, some even questioning his validity, you don’t need to look any further than his list of recent victims. UFC veterans Heath Herring, Brandon Lee Hinkle, and Fabio Maldonado count among his career victories.
