It didn’t take long for Martin Kampmann to find his next challenge.
It appears a long-awaited tilt between Kampmann and Thiago Alves is scheduled to take place as early as March 3 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. If confirmed, this fight will be poised to add another chapter to the long and storied history between American Top Team and Xtreme Couture.
News of the match-up was first reported by MMAWeekly with Alves also talking about it publicly and Kampmann stating through Twitter he spoke to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva earlier this afternoon.
Alves survived a few tense moments against Papy Abedi at UFC 138 before securing his first submission victory. Kampmann, no stranger to tense moments himself, survived the relentless wrestling of Rick Story before coming away with a decision victory at UFC 139.
A Detailed Breakdown of Story vs. Kampmann
Both fighters look to continue righting their path up the UFC’s welterweight division, and provide a great stylistic match-up for each other. Both fighters hold brown belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Alves will also bring in his penchant for power punching in against the calculated striking of Kampmann.
