Following his submission of the night win over Stanislav Nedkov, Thiago Silva (14-3, 2nc) has tested positive for marijuana metabolites. UFC On Fuel 6: Franklin Vs Le took place on November 10 in Macau, China, and the UFC acted as their own commission as usual for their overseas events. Silva was tested after the bout, and his sample came back positive. Silva was suspended for 6 months, and will have to pass a drug test and complete a rehab program before returning. There was no financial penalty, and the win over Nedkov will be turned into a No Contest. That means Silva hasn’t had a win since he defeated Keith Jardine at UFC 102. The UFC made the announcement in a statement released to a handful of media outlets.
Thiago Silva tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his bout at UFC on FUEL TV in Macau. The UFC organization has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents.
Silva has admitted to taking the banned substance and has agreed to participate in an approved drug-rehabilitation program and serve a six-month suspension retroactive to the November 10 event. He must pass a drug test upon completion of the suspension before receiving clearance to fight again.
