We are in the home stretch of 2012, but you didn’t think the year of the injury was over did you? Chris Weidman (9-0) has pulled out of his fight with Chris Boetsch (16-4)at UFC 155, and his teammate Costa Philippou (11-2, 1nc) has stepped in to take the fight. Early reports are citing an injured shoulder, that may require surgery forced Weidman out, but with his house getting totaled in Hurricane Sandy, the middleweight is having a rough year.
Last Saturday, Philippou woke up planning to step into the octagon against Nick Ring at UFC 154. Ring was prevented from competing by doctors, and the fight was cancelled. He now gets to step up for his friend and training partner, but he will step up in competition and face Boestch.
Newsday first ran the story, and Weidman’s and Costa’s coach told them:
“It’s awful,” trainer Ray Longo said. ”Everything happens for a reason. I guess this is the reason.”
