Former Strikeforce and DREAM welterweight fighter, Andre Galvao might soon be under the Zuffa banner coming up soon.
The Abu Dhabi veteran and multiple time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion recently tried out for the thirteenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” in Las Vegas where hundreds of hopefuls arrived, both in the welterweight and middleweight divisions.
A number of notable fighters, including fellow DREAM and Strikeforce veteran Karl Amassou, UFC vet Frankie Lester, and Zak Cummings were among those in attendance for the tryouts, however it looks like Galvao may be a lock for the show altogether.
MiddleEasy.com has already cited during their their ‘Sunday Morning Rumor Mill’ that in fact “Andre Galvao will be on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter”.
However Galvao, the mixed martial arts novice who holds a 5-2 record in the sport with notable wins over the likes of John Alessio, Jorge Patino, and Luke Stewart, is but one final process away from being an official cast member on the show.
“There were many guys, it was crowded, there were about 300 guys there and it was a success”, said the Black House and Wand Fight Team product while speaking with TATAME.com.
Galvao, who mentions that fellow teammate and middleweight prospect Vitor Vianna is also a near shoe-in for the show, believes that the great fighters don’t find their way on to the show, but the program in of itself produces great fighters.
“It’s not that great fighters joined the show’s cast, like Diego Sanchez, Forrest Griffin and Rashad Evans, and had disputed or even got the UFC title, it’s a growth that you have in there”.
So, MMA peeps, how do you like Andre’s chances of entering the program? Of all the fighters that entered the tryouts, Galvao has one of the larger names in the group.
He was a semi-finalist in DREAM’s welterweight Grand Prix, went 2-1 inside the Strikeforce banner with his lone loss coming to the hands of undefeated prospect Tyron Woodley in a fight that he took on short notice. He has potential. But, what do you think? Will he make it past the elimination rounds? Sound off in the comment section below.
