It boggles my mind how he can lean on somebody against the cage without doing anything substantial for minutes at a time before being parted by the ref. If the same ineffectual performance had been demonstrated on the ground, they would have been stood up far more quickly. Brandon Vera continues to frustrate me to no end. He has allllllll the talent in the world and if you see him train hes furious and focused and powerful. He hits the ring, gets a stupid grin on his face and doesn't do shit!! Where were the jabs with his reach? Why didn't he circle away from Randy as he comes forward WITH HIS HEAD DOWN?!??! Why didn't he rip even more of his amazing kicks that OBVIOUSLY worked. He instead throws no hands some feet and allows Randy to tie him up and hold on to him. I have respect for Randy, but he did NOTHING in this fight. The judging impartiality is a great threat to the validity of this sport. Couture is a fan favorite and if any swaying was done it was that. Usually the champion has a fan/judge advantage that must be overcome. In this case Randy alone without a belt apparently works the same way. In my opinion, Vera won by doing just a bit more than nothing. This fight was garbage in my opinion. They continually sang his praises throughout the very close fight, conceeding nothing to the Vera, who actually took Couture to the mat twice. Brandon Vera clearly won this fight. The judges must have been swayed by the over zealous announcers, because if they had watched the fight, it would have been scored 29-28 Vera! The announcers controlled this fight!
