Strikeforce: Fedor Emelianenko Versus Fabricio Werdum Could Be Next Says Coker

Scott Coker, CEO of Strikeforce, stated to the media before Strikeforce in Chicago November 7 that the winners of that night’s two key heavyweight bouts could meet at a future fight for the Strikeforce title, now held by “Demolition Man” Alistair Overeem (29-10).
Last Saturday night’s results would place Fighters.com’s Heavyweight Champion ”Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko (31-1) against ninth-ranked Brazilian heavyweight grappler Fabricio Werdum (13-4-1). During the post-fight press conference, Coker stated that some discussions are necessary, but followed up by saying that a fight between Emelianenko and Werdum “makes a lot of sense.”
Beating Coker to the punch, Werdum stated, “It’s my turn to fight Fedor. Fedor is the best in the world.”
Coker countered, “That’s something we’ll have to circle back with M-1. That’s definitely something we should talk about soon.”
M-1 Global is Emelianenko’s management company.
Before a title shot can be made between Emelianenko and Werdum, Overeem would probably be given the option to defend the title he’s held without defense for two years or vacate the title.
