UFC President Dana White has hinted Dan Henderson would face Lyoto Machida in his next bout, and that seems to be exactly what is happening at UFC 156. No official announcement has been made, but Henderson will face off against ‘The Dragon’ on superbowl weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will determine who will face the winner of current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen. Jones and Sonnen are set to fight at the end of April upon the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter 17.
Henderson made the announcement on Spike TV’s “MMA Uncensored Live” on Thursday. We last saw Henderson in a fight of the year performance against Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 139. Henderson was supposed to fight Jon Jones at the ill-fated UFC 151 but was forced off the card with a knee injury. On fight night, it will be more than 15 months since Henderson has been in the Octagon as he didn’t fight in 2012.
UFC 156 is scheduled to take place Feb. 2 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between defending champion Jose Aldo and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. A fight between Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is also rumored to be in the works for the card.
