UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones has talked about moving to heavyweight someday. However, almost as soon as Jones brought the notion up last year, UFC President Dana White shot it down and basically told him to get back to work in the 205-pound division. Despite White’s advice, it now looks like a heavyweight run is definitely in the future of the 25-year old star.
“I’ll definitely move up to heavyweight,” Jones said in an online chat provided by MetroPCS. “But it’ll probably be around 2013. Maybe at the end of 2013.”
“Right now I have a nutritionist and I’m starting to take the career a lot more seriously than I used to, so my weight cuts are getting a lot easier,” said Jones. “I walk around a lot thinner naturally. Right now I’m at, like, 225 (pounds). That’s a 20 pound cut and that’s really easy. So I might look bigger than most people when I’m fighting, but I’m really not.”
The Ultimate Fighter 17 has just started filming and the episodes should start running in January. After the series finishes up a few months later, opposing coaches Jones and Sonnen will square off on April 27.
