UFC Welterweight Rory MacDonald fights alongside his training partner and Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre on at UFC 167 when he fights Robbie Lawler. We last saw MacDonald at UFC On FOX in Seattle against Jake Ellenberger, and while fans were expecting a fight of the night candidate, that’s not how the fight played out. MacDonald picked up the unanimous decision, but he now understands that there is more to earning a title shot than just picking up a W. MacDonald says that it is something that he has addressed in camp, and he feels that a win over Lawler will earn him a title shot.
MacDonald told MMAJunkie:
“If I continue to have exciting fights and dominant fights and winning, I think I’m very close to a title shot. It really depends on how the fights go.”
“There was a lot of criticism about my most recent fight. I’ve taken some advice to be a little more exciting, a little more aggressive and also balancing it with being a technical fighter, so there was a lot to learn from that fight.”
“Georges brings in a lot of top-level talent into our training camps, so being able to reap the benefits of those guys coming in is another factor. Just being along Georges and seeing how he leads up to his fights is a great experience for me.”
