There’s no question UFC heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Junior dos Santos want to fight each other. Overeem was originally scheduled to challenge for Dos Santos’ championship earlier this year before being sidelined with a suspension. Since then the two have been taking shots at each other in interviews, pointing towards a 2013 tilt pitting the pair against each other.
I think Cain is gonna do good in this next fight…I think he’s gonna get the belt,” acknowledged Overeem in a discussion with MMAInterviews. “I felt so the first time, then he lost the belt, but I think this time could be different. So I’ll not be fighting Dos Santos for the belt but Cain.”
Overeem is expected to be cleared to fight again in late December and may receive an immediate title-shot depending on the health of the champ exiting the UFC 155 fight. Despite his extended absence from the cage, Overeem’s status as one of the sport’s best is hard to dispute considering he’s won eleven straight including success against Fabricio Werdum and Brock Lesnar.
