An exciting lightweight showdown, which had previously been rumored for the Montreal event in December, has now become official.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts, Jim Miller and Charles Oliveira have been added to the lineup for “ufc 124: St. Pierre vs Koscheck II”. The welterweight headliner is expected to take place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on December 11 at the famed Bell Centre.
Currently the UFC’s number two hot bed for mixed martial arts (just behind Las Vegas, of course) has become a beacon for the promotion to deliver an exciting night of fights, and Miller and Oliveira are no exception.
Coming off of an impressive win over season 8 winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” in Efrain Escudero, Oliveira was able to submit the former UFC star with a standing rear-naked choke in the co-main event of the evening, at “UFC Fight Night 22″. The win extended the Brazilian’s undefeated streak to a perfect 14-0, and garnered him his second back-to-back “Submission of the Night” award, in two tries.
Miller, meanwhile, is inching closer and closer to a title shot in the lightweight division. The 155-pound star is coming off of one of his biggest wins in his career, with a unanimous decision victory over perennial contender Gleison Tibau. After going through the gauntlet of tough lightweight competitors, including additional victories over Duane Ludwig, Mac Danzig, and Mark Bocek, with a win over Oliveira, Miller should be primed as the next challenger to the lightweight title.
The news of the bouts fruition became valid when it was announced on the newest addition of “The Ultimate Insider“.
So, MMA peeps, what do you think of the lightweight match up? Do you think the hype-train of Oliveira will continue to roll on? Sound off in the comment section below.
