UFC 153 Results: Anderson Silva impresses with opening round win over Stephan Bonnar

The UFC was back in Brazil tonight with a show featuring an animated crowd and some scintillating stoppages. The UFC 153 lineup was headlined by explosive pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva taking on fan-favorite Stephan Bonnar, making Silva’s first fight at 205 pounds since stomping Bonnar’s buddy, Forrest Griffin, in a 2009 tilt.

The outcome in his battle with Bonnar was similar to that against Griffin, as “The Spider” toyed with “The American Psycho” for the bulk of the first frame before dropping him with a knee and following it up with a TKO victory. The win was Silva’s sixteenth straight inside the Octagon.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Silva’s teammate and a fellow legend of the ring, was also scheduled to see action at the event where he took on Dave Herman. Herman entered the organization with a ton of hype but has struggled since, though “Pee Wee” remains a threat to finish any foe he faces given the number of TKOs/submissions on his record. In the end, Nogueira put Herman away with the very technique his foe felt was useless in MMA  (BJJ), locking up an Armbar in the second stanza of their scrap to earn the tap-out.
