It only took Rousimar Palhares 31 seconds to submit Mike Pierce in Brazil last Wednesday night in Brazil, but he still dealing with the repercussions of his actions. It was announced right away that he would not receive a bonus for the best submission of the night, and less than 24 hours later UFC President Dana White announced he would be released from the promotion. A day later the commission in Brazil announced that he would also be suspended an additional six months. Many fight fans speculated that Palhares would end up in the Bellator middleweight division, but Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney put an end to that rumor last night.
Rebney told TMZ:
“Risks already exist for the courageous, world class fighters who enter the Bellator cage; without adding further unnecessary risks into the mix.”
“Fighter safety is paramount to me and my team.”
