Koscheck and Yoshida Headline Military Event
By: Selina "Dead" Wong Posted On: October 9, 2008 at 11:20pmJosh Koscheck (11-2) and “Zenko” Yoshiyuki Yoshida (10-2), Fighters.com’s fourth- and ninth-ranked welterweights, respectively, will clash as the main event at UFC Fight for the Troops 10 December in North Carolina, the UFC officially announced Thursday.
It will take place at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, not at nearby Fort Bragg as originally reported, and air on SpikeTV.
Koscheck won seven of his last eight fights, losing only to Welterweight Champion “Rush” Georges St. Pierre (17-2) in a unanimous decision in August 2007.
Koscheck’s last fight was in July, a unanimous decision victory over “Lights Out” Chris Lytle (25-16-5).
Yoshida has nine straight victories. He last fought War Machine, formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver (5-2), winning his UFC debut in May with a 56-second submission via anaconda choke.
Yoshida was later scheduled to face “The Heat” Karo Parisyan (18-5) at UFC 88; however, Parisyan pulled out a day before the match, too late to find a replacement.
The UFC also officially confirmed a welterweight bout between “Quick” Mike Swick (12-2) and Jonathan Goulet (22-9), and a lightweight bout between “The Answer” Frank Edgar (9-1) and “Handsome” Matt Wiman (10-3), both previously reported by Fighters.com.
UFC Fight for the Troops will raise funds for the construction of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, a hospital to treat members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have experienced traumatic brain injuries.
It is a free event just for the troops, but viewers are encouraged to call in to donate.

Title shot for Kos after he derails Yoshida? It’s gotta be considered…
You and probably Koscheck are underestimating Yoshida. He’s no joke, slick as snot, and has a Samurai’s spirit.
i like yoshida myself, hopefully its gonna be a good fight
Honestly, I don’t know if Yoshida can beat Koscheck; but, I know it’s going to be fun to watch.
These are two top ten welterweigths on SpikeTV card. It’s a better main event than Bisping v Leben at UFC 89.
