Bellator’s heavyweight division got a solid boost a few months back when the organization went out and signed Brett Rogers, a former Strikeforce heavyweight with wins over James Thompson and Andrei Arlovski. However, based on his performance last night at Bellator 75, it looks like fans may have overestimated his impact on the company’s roster.
Rogers came up short last night in the opening round of Bellator’s heavyweight tournament, suffering a decision loss to Alexander Volkov. Even worse, “Da Grim” wasn’t even competitive in the clash, looking tentative and sloppy throughout.
Other fighters who followed Volkov’s lead in advancing to the semifinal round were Vinicius Queiroz, Richard Hale, and Thiago Santos. Santos’ win came over rival Eric Prindle but was far from pretty, as the Brazilian finisher had his hand raised after Prindle was disqualified for an illegal kick to the groin.
