Late Replacement Petruzelli Hands Slice First Loss

Posted On: October 4, 2008 at 10:30pm

“Everyone said what it was.  It was an opportunity for me to step up,” said Petruzelli after the win.

Petruzelli and Slice agreed to fight just 40 minutes before CBS EliteXC Fight Night went live after Slice’s original opponent, “World’s Most Dangerous Man” Ken Shamrock (26-13-2), bailed with a cut over his eye suffered while warming up Saturday.

Shamrock’s brother, EliteXC broadcaster Frank Shamrock (23-9-2), called Ken “a discrace” on air.

“Honestly, man, it was a crappy situation for both us,” Petruzelli said.  “It was unfortuante what happened to Ken.  This is professional fighting.  It’s not supposed to be like it is on the streets.”

But, if it was like a street fight, Slice, the “YouTube street fighting sensation”, should’ve had the advantage.

Slice pressed Petruzelli at the bell and ate a front kick immediately.  Petruzelli followed with a straight right that sent Slice to his hands and knees.  Slice never got back up as Petruzelli rained right hooks, then lefts to Slice’s skull.  The referee stepped in to end the fight; and, Slice, stunned, grabbed the referees leg.

After his first MMA loss, Slice told his hometown crowd, “It’s all good.  It’s all good.  It was unexpected.”  Then Slice plugged his sponsors and after party.

For MMA aficionados, Slice’s loss wasn’t so much an upset as a confirmation that mixed martial arts can’t be picked-up by any fighter off the streets in a year.

I love it! Shamrock bitched out, they get Seth Petruzelli a guy who alot of people have never even heard of as a replacement to finally knockout the over rated Kimbo Slice! The look on Kimbos corner as he was goin down was pricless! Congrats to Seth Petruzelli.

I don’t think Shamrock was ever even going to fight. Honestly, who drops out the day off bc of a cut he got in training? It was all to get people in the MMA world to watch EliteXC, good promo, a UFC Hall of Famer vs. the Youtube Sensation…too bad that will never happen

Why would they let Kimbo prepare for Shamrock only to see him get knocked out by a no-name middleweight?

Ive said it before, Kimbo ain’t shit. He has no wind what so ever. Any quick hands and stamina person can beat his ass. The J.Thompson fight was a joke. He is another slow motion fighter. Kimbo was never shit, unless you had no head movement. Fools on the street aren’t practicing footwork and head movement. Lesson learned.

    2)
As far as the matchmaking onspiracies go, you might wanna tuck them back under your aluminum foil hat.

    That was just awesome!
    Especially Danas comments afterwards.
I hope theyll now just make kimbo fight where he belongs and give him a pay he deserves, even though it would be strange to be set back.

then again.. its even more strange to have the guy fighting headlines and getting more money than 10 times better mma athletes.
