There’s nothing more UFC featherweight Chad Mendes wants than an opportunity to avenge his only career loss by earning a second shot at 145-pound champion Jose Aldo. For now, it looks like he’ll have to settle for one of Aldo’s teammates instead, as Mendes will face Nova Uniao product Hacran Dias this December when the UFC returns to Australia for UFC on FX 6.
Mendes revealed the match-up on Twitter, stating, “Its official like a referee whistle!”
While Dias is not a household name, having only fought in the Octagon a single time, he’s certainly one of the division’s most talented rising stars. The 28-year old Brazilian holds an overall record of 21-1-1 including twelve finishes and is currently on a nine-fight winning streak.
The 12-1 Mendes bounced back from his loss to Aldo with a July knockout of submission specialist Cody McKenzie. He also holds past victories over the likes of Rana Yahya, Michihiro Omigawa, Erik Koch, and Cub Swanson.
