Prior to his UFC Light Heavyweight title defense against Alexander Gustafsson, Jon Jones told a reporter that he would be interested in doing some boxing matches. While its not rare for an MMA fighter to say things like that, Jones said he not only felt he could compete with the likes of Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko, but he could possibly come out with a victory.
Jones is set to take on Number One Contender Glover Teixeira on Superbowl weekend, and Teixeira happens to be a big fan of the ‘sweet science.’ Teixeira doesn’t feel Jones would fare that well in a squared circle with either Klitschko.
Teixeira told FOX Sports:
“I don’t know man. It’s just one of those things. Just boxing? I think anyone in the UFC can beat a Klitschko in MMA. It’d be an easy fight. In boxing I think it’s weird because Jones is not even a boxer. His style is good with the knees and elbows, but no, I don’t think he’d be good in boxing.”
