In a fight where UFC light heavyweight Igor Pokrajac clearly had the advantage on the feet, and his opponent Vinny Magalhaes had a sizeable advantage on the ground, Pokrajac curiously made what turned out to be a fight-ending mistake. With Magalhaes pinned up against the cage in their UFC 152 meeting, early in the second round, Pokrajac did the unthinkable and took the BJJ specialist down.
Within seconds, Magalhaes had framed up Pokrajac’s arm, and it didn’t take long for the black belt and ADCC Champion to roll belly down to get the submission win. The second round only lasted 74 seconds, and at the end Pokrajac was writhing on the floor cradling his arm.
The frustrated Pokrajac recently took to Twitter to vent his frustrations, but he had a different angle on the fight than you might think, writing, “If I wanted to do a grappling match I would go on a grappling tournament , this is MMA and UFC fans want a fight.”
The fan reaction, as you can imagine, wasn’t very supportive of the way “The Duke” saw the fight. In fact, it was quite harsh. However, his opponent empathized with foe.
“I don’t think he should be saying that, because it would be the same as me getting knocked out and saying, ‘I didn’t sign up for a boxing match,’” said Magalhaes on MMAJunkie Radio. “I understand the guy, I’ve lost so many fights. People know that, and I would hate to be in his situation.”
Pokrajac has sinced apologized for his Twitter remarks, insisting he was just venting and spoke too quickly.
“Sorry to all MMA fans on my fast Tweet after the fight, was pissed off because of my mistake. I lost the fight. Vinny did his best . I don’t show anything I was prepared for, next fight I will do my best for all UFC and MMA fans. Thank you all on big support,” he posted.
