UFC Champ Anderson Silva To Defend Versus Vitor Belfort in January

Fighters.com and UFC Middleweight Champion “Spider” Anderson Silva (25-4) will defend his titles from Xtreme Couture’s “Phenom” Vitor Belfort (18-8) in Las Vegas January 2, UFC President Dana White confirmed to the LA Times Friday.

White had previously indicated Silva required surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow.  Fighters.com could not confirm White’s statement.  However, now White says he has reached a verbal agreement with Silva and Belfort, though evidently no contracts have been signed.

Silva TKO’d Fighters.com’s fourth-ranked light heavyweight Forrest Griffin (16-6) in the first round in a 205-pound bout at UFC 101 in Philadelphia August 8.

Belfort upset Fighters.com’s ninth-ranked middleweight “Ace” Rich Franklin (26-5) in just over three minutes in a 195-pound catch weight bout at UFC 103 in Dallas September 19.
