It may have felt like an eternity since MMA fans were last treated to a live UFC event but in reality it has only been about six weeks. Still, after the cancellation of UFC 151 the masses were ready to see the sport’s best battle it out and were treated to such tonight in the form of a stacked lineup for UFC 152.
The show was headlined by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones putting his belt on the line against seasoned veteran Vitor Belfort, a former UFC title-holder himself. Jones improved his overall record to 17-1 after an early scare where Belfort threatened with an Armbar. However, in the end “Bones” pulled off the win after picking Belfort apart in the stand-up department, hurting him on the ground, and eventually locking in an Americana for the submission win.
Jones-Belfort was not be the only title-fight on the card with Demetrious Johnson-Joseph Benavidez also locking horns to determine the UFC’s first flyweight king. The dynamic duo were considered to be the top two 125ers in MMA and lived up to the reputation after turning in an exciting affair. Johnson emerged from the bout with a Split Decision win and the belt, proving to be a bit too quick for the Team Alpha Male competitor.
