Retired NFL Star Herschel Walker to Fight MMA at Strikeforce

Posted On: September 21, 2009 at 11:00am

Retired NFL Pro Bowl running back Herschel Walker (0-0) has signed an MMA contract with Strikeforce to make his competitive fighting debut at 47-years old, Strikeforce director of communications Mike Afromowitz confirmed to AOL Fanhouse.

About the publicity stunt, Afromowitz told AOL Fanhouse, “This isn’t a publicity stunt or a gimmick.  Herschel Walker has tremendous athleticism, and he has always shown that off the gridiron.  He’s accomplished a lot in his life and in the world of sports.  His accomplishments speak for themselves, and we hope that his athleticism can transition into a successful MMA career.”

Walker is a sixth-degree black belt in taekwondo and will begin training at the American Kickboxing Avademy.  He will compete at heavyweight.

    @ZosKia

    Zoskia: you are too clueless for words. Go back and watch TUF.

    Walker is too old to start but he does have a pedigree (6th dan?) in martial arts while Canseco had ZERO.

    You should know about zeros….
