UFC legend Vitor Belfort might be an 8:1 underdog in this weekend’s title-fight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones but don’t tell him that. As far as Belfort’s concerned, he is confident he will leave countless jaws dropped with an impressive victory over the incredibly successful youngster.
“I know I can win this fight and shock the world,” acknowledged Belfort in a conversation with the UFC. “I am so ready in my mind, it is hard for me to explain. I am so ready to be the champion again. My brain, my body, they are so ready.”
“That’s how I live my life, with belief. I am a winner. I am ready to win,” Belfort continued, explaining his mindset entering the UFC 152 bout is the same he employs in his day-to-day journey through life. “As you get older you learn about yourself. I have the same abilities as I had when I was younger, but now I have more sense of myself. I know how I respond and learn. Whenever someone says something like ”˜Can you speak French?’ I don’t say “no” I say “Not yet”. Against Jon Jones people ask ”˜how can you beat this guy?’ and I say ”˜I will show you how on Saturday’.”
Belfort has finished both opponents he’s faced since falling to Anderson Silva in February 2011. He has racked up 21 total wins in his career including fourteen strike-based stoppages like those against Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin, evidence showing he certainly has the ability to back up his words.
