Bisping: "I haven

It’s no secret that if you’re not from the UK, you most likely are not a supporter of Michael Bisping.

Since his inception in the ufc, Bisping has always portrayed a sort of arrogant confidence that most people have either come to love or hate. None the less, he has proven to be one of, if not the biggest draw in the UK market, which has proven evident to several sold out shows in England.

However, jabbing words at your own countryman probably won’t sit well with said fans–especially when your taking pot shots at another endeared fighter in welterweight contender, Dan Hardy.

“I think now it’s become the cool thing to slag me off – I don’t know where it’s come from a lot of it to be honest”, began Bisping in an interview with Mirror.co.uk.

“You know, I’m an approachable guy, I always have time for everyone and yeah, sometimes I say some things sometimes that might piss people off a little bit, but most of the time it’s tongue in cheek and I’m having a laugh and they don’t get that”, added Bisping.

While “The Count”, the season 3 winner of the famed “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show–where he competed in the light heavyweight division until he lost a fight to eventual champion Rashad Evans by unanimous decision at UFC 78–has largely accepted his role as the “bad guy” here in the U.S. following his stint as a coach opposite of MMA great Dan Henderson, it’s the backlash he’s received from some of his fellow Englishman that has him the most on edge.

“To see it from some of the UK guys pisses me off. I’ve been a proud ambassador of UK MMA, I’ve worked hard and I’ve helped grow the sport to where it is”, said the middleweight, who is set to headline UFC 120 in England at the 02 Arena opposite of Yoshihiro Akiyama.

“I haven’t disappeared off to America, like some ‘Mohican’ wearing people and lived there and trained there, but then come back here and pretend I’m English”.

Now, I have no PhD, but if I didnt know better, I’d say that was a directed towards the aforementioned Hardy.

“The Outlaw”, who burst onto the UFC scene in late 2008, opened up his career under the Zuffa banner with four straight victories over Akihiro Gono, Rory Markham, Marcus Davis, and Mike Swick (respectively) which eventually landed him a title shot against welterweight great Georges St. Pierre.

Though Hardy would end up losing by unanimous decision at UFC 111 last March, he gained the respect of a lot of people in the MMA community through his grit and determination in the fight, where he had plenty of chances to bow out and tap out to several submission attempts, but he decided otherwise.

Everyone seemed to be impressed, but Bisping who had some words for Hardy, who splits his time training with Team Roughhouse in the UK, and Eddie Bravo’s “10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu” Academy as well as Freddie Roach’s famed “Wildcard” boxing gym here in the states.

“My roots are here in England and I stay here and I train here and I’m proud to be English”, said “The Count”.

“You know, I don’t go training in America because the trainings better, but then come here and try and get all the UK fans on my side. I’m English and this is where I’m from and this is where I train”.

So, MMA peeps, what do you think of Bisping’s verbal melee on Hardy? Warranted? Childish? Or just…for a lack of a better word, dumb? Let your opinions be heard below.
