“Minotauro” Nogueira gets second shot at Frank Mir this December

Legendary heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira made his wish for a rematch with Frank Mir well-known shortly after making his successful return to the ring at UFC 134, and now it appears he will have it granted in the form of an early Christmas present on December 10 in Toronto.
The former title-holding duo’s UFC 140 fight was revealed through the UFC’s website where UFC President Dana White – also known as Santa Claus in the equation – described the bout by saying, “Both men are known as two of the premiere submission specialists in the division but have shown dangerous striking skills as well.”
The talents White spoke of were on display in Rio de Janeiro when “Minotauro” laid streaking contender Brendan Schaub out a few minutes into the opening round though the performance only marked the third TKO of Nogueira’s storied career. Twenty of his wins have come via submission including those over Tim Sylvia, Mirko Filipovic, and Dan Henderson.
“Big Nog” Still Has Much More to Show
However, it was Mir’s powerful stand-up putting Nogueira away when the two first faced off in late 2008 at UFC 92, the first time the Brazilian icon had ever been finished. The 32-year old former champ holds an overall record of 15-5 and is currently on a two-fight winning streak with convincing victories against “Cro Cop” and Roy Nelson.
