WEC 36: Faber vs Brown, scheduled for 10 September south of Fort Lauderdale, FL, will be postponed until 5 November due to Hurricane Ike, WEC officials announced Friday night.

Peter Dropick, WEC Vice President of Operations and Production, said, “Due to the potential of a major hurricane hitting the South Florida area on Wednesday we were compelled to postpone the event.  For the safety of our fans, the fighters and our staff we felt it was in the best interest to make this decision.”

Hurricane Ike is currently a Category 4 storm with winds of up to 135mph, moving west-southwest towards Cuba and possibly reaching Florida Tuesday or Wednesday.

WEC 36 features a featherweight title bout between the current champion “California Kid” Urijah Faber (21-1) and Mike Thomas Brown (19-4).

Also on the card is Fighters.com’s third-ranked middleweight “Ely” Paulo Filho (16-0).  He will defend his title against Chael Sonnen (20-9-1).
