CORRECTION: Former UFC Champ Tim Sylvia is Michael Myers, Not Jason Voorhees

Posted On: September 6, 2009 at 12:10pm

After Fighters.com received death threats and an ominous blood and other bodily fluid-stained hockey mask in the mail from horror geeks, I went back to my source that told me Former UFC heavyweight champion “Maine-iac” Tim Sylvia (24-6) is a stand-in for horror film icon Jason Voorhees.

“I made a couple mistakes…,” admitted my source, who is very close to Sylvia. “Tim is a stand-in for Michael Myers in the ‘Halloween’ movie out now.”

So, Sylvia is standing-in as Michael Myers, not Jason Voorhees. Being a person afraid of things that could really happen and generally bored by horror films, I don’t know whether or not this is equally as outrageous to horror geeks as Sylvia standing-in for Jason Voorhees, but I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.

Fighters.com apologizes for the mistake and the devastation it caused to horror fans. Upon being told mistakenly by a reliabale source that Sylvia was standing-in for Jason Voorhees in the “Friday the 13th” sequel now in production, Fighters.com verified through IMDB that there is a “Friday the 13th” sequel in pre-production. Stand-ins are not credited, so Fighters.com couldn’t verify Sylvia’s work on the film. And, Platinum Dunes, the film’s production company, doesn’t provide contact information at their website, so Fighters.com couldn’t confirm the information with them either. Fighters.com decided to publish the information based on the reliability of the source and the source’s relationship to Sylvia to be in a position to know the information. Fighters.com thanks the horror fans who lead to the correction of the original story.

Sylvia is in Boston now filming another movie, the title of which Fighters.com will withhold. While in Boston, Sylvia is training at Sityodtong USA with trainer Mark DellaGrotte, who trains two-time UFC lightweight title challenger “KenFlo” Kenny Florian (11-4), former UFC middleweight challenger “Predator” Patrick Cote (13-5), and The Ultimate Fighter 1 finalist “American Psycho” Stephan Bonnar (11-6).

On a three-fight losing streak and most recently on the horizontal end of a “Merciless” Ray Mercer (1-0) nine-second knockout at Adrenaline MMA 3 in Birmingham 13 June, Sylvia will get to diggin’ himself out of the deepest trench of his underrated career versus Jason Riley (6-1) at Adrenaline MMA 4 in Omaha 18 September.

Adrenaline MMA 4 will be held at the Mid-American Center in Council Bluffs on 18 September. The undercard will start at 7:30 PM; the main card will be broadcast on HDNet beginning at 9:00 PM. Pre-sale tickets start at $33 for general admission, $103 ringside, and $530 for a table of ten. Purchase tickets at Ticketmaster.

My friend Derek Mears Facebook status: Thanks everyone for your messages of concern regarding the false F13th rumor. Here’s what F13th producer Brad Fuller wrote on Twitter “Don’t believe the rumor. We are NOT shooting F13 right now, and the only person I want to work with as JASON is Derek Mears.” How nice is that?

Also, being a stand-in is HUGELY different from playing the character!!! I am surprised that Tim would agree to be a stand in as that is about as low on the actor totem pole as you can get … like extra work. No offense to the guy but being a stand in is NOT something I would advise a man of Sylvia’s status to publicize in any way. It’s a big step down for him.

I’m confused. How is this a step down for him when his only film work was a bit part in Bobby Z? This is getting him work in the film industry, something that he’s been interested in for a long while. Work is work, it’s not like he was the lighting coordinator or something.

Also, Chad, you could have verified that Tim was in the new Halloween movie by visiting his website. It was a blog update a few months ago. So much for research :P jk
