UFC featherweight Chad Mendes is on a three-fight winning streak and a former title-contender. However, he’s only faced a handful of truly upper-echelon competitors. Meanwhile, UFC 164 foe Clay Guida has mixed it up with many of the best 155ers in MMA and beaten more than a few of them.
Guida expects that edge in experience to pay off tonight when he mixes it up with Mendes, telling MMAJunkie…
“He hasn’t been in there with someone like me. He’s been in there with guys that respect him and let him rest, and he hasn’t done the training that I’ve done. He hasn’t been in with the partners that I have. He hasn’t been in with the opponents that I’ve faced. You’re going to see a more motivated, more well-rounded Clay Guida.”
“Yes, he’s knocked out his last three opponents, and knocking someone out, kudos to you, that’s awesome. Once you start getting into the upper echelon of guys, it’s a little bit harder to do so.”
“I’m not saying a big win of finishing Chad Mendes makes me the No. 1 contender, but it fixes me up in the top two or three outside of my good friend and teammate Cub Swanson, Ricardo Lamas, and … Frankie Edgar.”
