A single punch hasn’t been thrown inside the octagon yet, but UFC 177: Dillashaw Vs Soto has been taking hit after hit for weeks. As of yesterday morning, UFC 177 had ten fights on the card that included an anticipated rematch between current UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw and former champ Renan Barao. By the time weigh ins rolled around, there were only eight fights left on the card and Dillashaw is now scheduled to defend his title against promotional newcomer Joe Soto.

Cain Carrizosa vs. Chris Wade
Round 1(ref: Jason Herzog)
Carrizosa is looking to defend his perfect record in the curtain puller. Carrizosa comes forward and Wade quickly throws him and goes to work from side mount. In a scramble for the back, Wade switches it up and goes for the guillotine choke. Wade chokes out Carrizosa cold in his UFC debut.

Anthony Hamilton vs. Ruan Potts

Round 1(ref: Steven Davis)
Hamilton coming forward early, and puts Potts on his back for a short moment. Hamilton with a clear size advantage in the fight. Potts lands a right hand, and Hamilton takes him down and lets him up. One way traffic for Hamilton, and after landing some strikes he gets another takedown. Rinse, wash and repeat.

Round 2
The crowd is not liking the action. Hamilton gets the takedown, lands a few shots, and lets Potts up. This time Hamilton stays on top and lands really solid shots to the ribs. Same spot over and over again with these punches from Hamilton. After landing dozens of shots to the ribs, the ref steps in and stops the fight.

Derek Brunson vs. Lorenz Larkin
Round 1(ref: Herb Dean)
Plenty of feeling out early in the first round. Larkin is getting the better of the striking early in the bout. Brunson gets the takedown with a guillotine attempt, and now he is marking up Larkin on the floor. Brunson ends the round with strikes from inside the guard of Larkin.

Larkin coming forward early. Brunson is shooting for the takedown, but Larkin is using his footwork really well to keep him on the outside. Larkin lands a mean right hand to the body of Brunson. Brunson gets the takedown and moves right into side mount. Brunson works insides the guard, and with a minute left Larkin gets to his feet. Larkin starts throwing hands, but Brunson puts him right back down.

After dodging some strikes from Larkin, Brunson gets the takedown but isn’t landing much from the top. Larkin is getting smothered so far in this round. Larkin gets to his feet with 30 seconds left, but can’t land the strikes he needs for the finish.

Damon Jackson vs. Yancy Medeiros
Round 1(ref: Jason Herzog)
Jackson comes forward early and lands a nice right hand. Medeiros lands a clean one, but Medeiros is fighting with his chin straight up. They clinch on the fence and go back and forth working the position. Medeiros is landing the better shots in the clinch. They go back and forth in the clinch, but Medeiros disengages and is starting to get comfortable. Medeiros landing some solid shots in the closing minutes.

Jackson comes forward early, and Medeiros lands a solid right as he comes in. Jackson lands a nice head kick but Medeiros eats it and lands some solid combinations. Medeiros laces up a modified guillotine, and chokes Jackson out cold.

Carlos Diego Ferreira vs. Ramsey Nijem
Round 1(ref: Herb Dean)

Ferreira comes forward early, but both fighters are feeling each other out. Nijem is circling and lands a slick left hook. Nijem catches a kick and gets the takedown. Ferreira scrambles up quickly, and they exchange. Nijem lands a solid right hand and Ferreira is definitely rattled. Nijem gets rattled and almost dropped. Ferreira searches for the submission as the round ends.

Ferreira drops Nijem early in the round, and pulls guards with a guillotine he didn’t get. Nijem scrambles out and up out of trouble, but eats a right hand as he closes the distance. Ferreira finishes him off with some ground and pound.

Shayna Baszler vs. Bethe Correia
Round 1(ref: John McCarthy)
Correia circles early and Baszler clinches with Correia. Correia ends up on top but Baszler is hunting for submissions. Correia escapes but Baszler is putting pressure on her. Baszler is having a hard time getting her down.

Baszler eats some right hands and ties up Correia. Correia creates space, and starts lighting up Baszler. Correia is battering Baszler on the fence and Baszler won’t go down. Baszler never went down, but Correia absolutely wrecked her.

Danny Castillo vs. Tony Ferguson
Round 1(ref:)
Ferguson is coming forward early and landing leg kicks and body kicks. Ferguson lands some hands and pulls guard with a darce choke he can’t finish. Castillo ends up on top, but just rides out the round.

Round 2
Ferguson coming forward early again, and is landing almost everything he is throwing. Castillo shoots for a takedown, but can’t get it down. In a clinch, Ferguson rolls for a leg lock he didn’t get, and once again Castillo ends up on top. Ferguson reverses, and almost ends up in mount, but Castillo recovers and gets back on top. Ferguson is being busier from his back.

Castillo shoots early, but Ferguson stuffs it. Ferguson rolls for a knee bar, and ends up in a scramble on the bottom. Castillo is just laying on top of Ferguson at this point, but its Ferguson landing strikes from the bottom.

Dillashaw is coming forward early, and is landing on Soto. It looks like Soto is having a hard time pulling the trigger. Dillashaw takes Soto’s back in a scramble, but Soto escapes. Dillashaw is headhunting, and Soto still doesn’t look comfortable. Dillashaw has a clear speed advantage in the striking, but Soto is plotting forward now. Dillashaw’s combinations are coming in bunches now, but he still hasn’t landed anything that hurt him. The round closes with Soto landing a leg kick and a nice uppercut on Dillashaw.

Dillashaw eats some right hands from Soto, but he is still plotting forward unphased. Dillashaw’s punches look really snappy, and he is now working in kicks. Soto is plotting forward, but its Dillashaw who is landing and getting the better of the combinations. Everytime Dillashaw throws his uppercut he lands it, and he is starting to work them into his combinations. Soto comes forward with a flurry as the round ends.

Round 4
Dillashaw takes the center and lands a big uppercut to start the round. Soto is plotting forward, but again its the champion who is really putting the punches together. Soto is fighting like he knows he needs a finish. Dillashaw lands a combination, and then gets the takedown with 90 seconds left in the round. Soto scrambles to his feet, but Dillashaw is still coming forward.

Round 5

Dillashaw opens with a combination that ends with a nice high kick. Soto is still in the fight, but he needs a hail mary shot to win the fight. Dillashaw lands a high kick, and Soto’s legs turn to rubber. Dillashaw follows with a right hand that plants him on the canvas out cold. Dillashaw defends his title for the first time with a fifth round knockout.
