Jorge Gurgel matched with Mizuto Hirota at September Strikeforce event

Strikeforce: Healy vs. Melendez has grown quite a bit in recent days with the addition of bouts between Nah-Shon Burrell-Yuri Villefort and Amanda Nunes-Cat Zingano. However, it appears the organization isn’t done fattening the card up just yet, as officials have now revealed a lightweight match-up between submission-specialist Jorge Gurgel and Japanese striker Mizuto Hirota.

The September 29 show is headlined by 155-pound champion Gilbert Melendez defending his belt against seasoned scrapper Pat Healy.

Despite being a decorated BJJer, Gurgel has often opted to stand and slug it out with his opponents in hopes of delivering an exciting fight for fans. He holds an overall record of 14-8 with ten tap-outs to his credit and a win over Conor Heun under the Strikeforce banner.

A Closer Look at Gurgel’s Last Fight

The 14-5-1 Hirota has stopped eight opponents with strikes including Satoru Kitaoka, Ryan Schultz, and Mitsuhiro Ishida.
