UFC star Chael Sonnen rarely has to look hard to find a peer interested in putting hands on him. In addition to being a talented competitor, Sonnen is also a draw based on his polarizing personality and ability to sell fights through media appearances. However, the former title-contender can’t seem to land an opponent at the moment.
Sonnen originally went after Wanderlei Silva, though the Brazilian has been hesitant to sign a bout agreement without some financial favors from the UFC. He also mentioned Vitor Belfort as a possibility before “The Phenom” was inked to a match-up with Dan Henderson.
The 28-13-1 Sonnen commented on the matter to MMAJunkie, saying…
“I just got out of the ring exactly one week ago, so I started back for practice today. It was my first time breaking a sweat, and from here on, I’m back at it.”
“I don’t have any opponent. I’d really like to be part of the 20th anniversary show. I’m really looking to be part of the St-Pierre/Hendricks card.”
I’ll fight one more time this year. That puts me between the St-Pierre card or the Chris Weidman card. So I would like to be part of the 20th anniversary show. But one of those two dates match up well.”
