UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum has been patiently waiting for things to play out in the division between champion Cain Velasquez and top contender Junior dos Santos, assuming he’ll score a title-shot against the victor based on his recent run of success and reputation as one of the best big men in MMA. That being said, he has some thoughts on how things unfold in the October effort, recently offering up a prediction on who he’ll be facing in early 2014.
According to Werdum, Dos Santos’ only avenue to success will occur in the opening stanza, while Velasquez has a much better chance of winning beyond those five minutes.
“I think in the first round, ‘Cigano’ has the power in his hands. If he gets a good punch, he’ll win. But if it goes to the second round and past the second round, Velasquez will win a decision again,” said Werdum to MMA Show News.
Velasquez-Dos Santos is set to headline UFC 166 in Houston on October 19.
