With issues outside of the Octagon on his mind, Jordan Mein stepped into the cage and did what he does best: fight.

Mein landed a perfectly-timed shot early in the first round that floored Mike Pyle, finishing up with some ground-and-pound to earn the win in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 49 Saturday evening.

After weigh-ins on Friday, Mein’s father was arrested after an incident at the hotel he was staying at. The Canadian put all of that out of thought and earned his 16th career first round finish.

“I want to see another co-main event spot,” he said. “I love being in the spotlight and feel that is where I belong.”

Mein (29-9) has now gone 5-1 in his last six, with the lone loss coming to Matt Brown last April via TKO. He is 11-2 in his last 13 overall, having only lost to Tyron Woodley back in 2012.

While he didn’t get to showcase much, Mein was happy with the patience he displayed in not over-committing on each punch. The blows that led to the finish, though, were good ones.

“I felt it land and felt it land so clean,” he said. “It was right on the chin. I saw him fall and saw how hurt he was.”

Pyle is now 26-10-1 in his career and 5-2 in his last seven, with both losses being knockouts.
