Given his reputation for all-out brawling, it’s hard to believe UFC star Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1) would back down from any challenge. However, in the case of Chael Sonnen (28-13-1) it appears he’s done exactly that.
According to a report from MMAFighting citing UFC President Dana White, Silva has rejected an offer to face Sonnen based on a desire to get a cut of the PPV earnings from the effort. Whether serious or tongue-in-cheek, White also said the issue could force “The Axe Murderer” to retire based on the slim possibility of him being awarded a coveted share of money brought in by buyrates.
Sonnen has openly challenged Silva on a number of times with the most recent coming on Saturday night seconds after choking out Mauricio Rua at UFC Fight Night 26.
