Unconfirmed Report: UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar Versus Shane Carwin at 106
By: Chad Edward Posted On: August 20, 2009 at 1:43pmFighters.com’s top heavyweight contender and UFC champ Brock Lesnar (4-1) and sixth-ranked Shane Carwin (10-0) have agreed to collide at UFC 106 in Las Vegas 21 November, according to Minnesota MMA.
Fighters.com has not yet confirmed the report and the UFC hasn’t announced the fight.
Carwin had previously confirmed a UFC 104 matchup versus fellow prospect Cain Velasquez (6-0). He knocked out former UFC title challenger “Napao” Gabriel Gonzaga (10-4) last March in Columbus at UFC 96.
Lesnar beat the pulp out of Frank Mir (12-4) at UFC 100 in Las Vegas 11 July.
After UFC President Dana White failed to make a deal with Fighters.com’s Heavyweight Champion “Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko (29-1), White complained that “the best fighters in the world fight the best three times a year.”
It was a jab at Emelianenko’s controversial legacy of fighting freak shows and middleweights, though Emelianenko’s two knockouts over former UFC champs tenth-ranked “Pitbull” Andrei Arlovski (14-7) and “Maine-iac” Tim Sylvia (24-6) during his stint in Affliction quelled that reputation a bit.
However, White failed to recognize his own champion, Lesnar, had only fought once in 2009. A matchup versus Carwin will add more legitimacy to Lesnar even on White’s own terms.
