Anthony Pettis, WEC and MTV Star

Pettis definitely chose his moniker carefully, because “Showtime” appears now to be hitting the big time. The WEC lightweight contender, who is coming off the heels of his most recent victory over perennial contender Shane Roller–by a third-round triangle choke, will be featured in a new MTV special, coming out this September.

MTV is no stranger to the MMA world, as they have been one of the original company’s featuring MMA fighters throughout their everyday lives, most infamously current 155-pound UFC champion, Frankie Edgar back in 2008.

Pettis, a 23-year-old Duke Roufus product out of Milwaukee, will be featured in “The World of Jenks”, a show following the everyday lives of interesting people introspectively, in a sort of more intimate setting than that of MTV’s other success story, “True Life”.

Thankfully enough, Pettis was filmed around the time he picked up his biggest highlight in his bag of tricks, when put the Duke Roufus tutelage to the test, when he threw a head kick and knocked out Danny Castillo in the first round at WEC 47, this past March.

While kicks are in abundance for the 155-pound spitfire, triangles are now part of his arsenal. Pettis is now on the heels of a three fight win streak including the win over Roller, and has now earned back-to-back submission victories, by way of triangle choke, making him a formidable opponent both on the feet and now on the ground.

So, does everyone agree that MTV, along with cable network acceptance, is a step in the right direction for the MMA movement?
