When former Strikeforce champion Mo Lawal signed with Bellator he probably thought a spot on SportsCenter’s “Top 10 Plays” was attainable based on the performances he planned on putting on inside the organization’s cage. Though Lawal ultimately achieved that feat, it wasn’t necessarily in the way he wanted. As fans undoubtedly remember, a Spinning Backfist from opponent Emanuel Newton stopped Lawal in his tracks and sent him down to the canvas, out cold. The highlight was well-circulated including a mention on ESPN’s trademark show.
Lawal will have an opportunity to avenge the embarrassing loss when Bellator heads to PPV, as officials have recently announced a rematch featuring the fighters has been attached to the November 2 card. Though both men are title-contenders, champion Attila Vegh is shelved with a shoulder injury, so an interim title will be created for the upcoming PPV clash.
Newton is 21-7-1 in his career with eleven stoppages, while Lawal holds an 11-2 mark including nine knockouts.
