Gegard Mousasi Rips The Strikeforce 205-Pound Title From "Babalu" Sobral
By: Chad Edward Posted On: August 15, 2009 at 10:42pm“Dreamcatcher” Gegard Mousasi (22-2-1) arrived at 205 after melting Strikeforce light heavyweight champ “Babalu” Renato Sobral (31-9) by TKO against the fence in one minute for the title at San Jose Saturday.
Mousasi landed 13 strikes to Sobral’s one, leaving “Babalu” frighteningly wide-eyed and unconcious as referee “Big” John McCarthy pulled Mousasi off.
A stoic Mousasi resembling his mentor, Fighters.com’s Heavyweight Champion “Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko’s (29-1) , hip tossed the champion and former UFC title challenger after Sobral caught Mousasi’s body kick. From side control, Mousasi hammered Sobral’s face until the fight’s conclusion.

This dude is sick. His hands are going to be nightmare for a lot of people. I don’t if Babalu was a real opponent for this kind of fighter, but there’s no doubt he has freak talent.
Babalu had looked good since leaving the UFC. He’s not a top ten fighter, but Gegard showed what he does to fighters not in the top ten. It’s going to be hard for Strikeforce to find opposition for him.
