UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey has always danced to the beat of a different drum and the same is certainly true when it comes to how she’s approached her MMA career. While many fighters in her position would be looking forward to ruling the Octagon for a decade, the 26-year old superstar actually wants out of the sport before the end of 2015.
Rousey explained her rationale in a recent interview with MMAJunkie, saying she never planned to fight into her 30s regardless of how much success she achieved.
“I said from the beginning that I work in quadrennials. I do four-year cycles. I think I’ve got two years left in me, realistically, if I’m going to do this like an Olympic run.”
“I am the best f*cking fighter in the world, and I truly believe that, but you’re still rolling the dice no matter who you are, so I do have to kind of set up an exit strategy. That’s what I did wrong in judo. I followed it all the way until the end, and I didn’t put any thought into after.”
