Anderson Silva: PHENOMENAL in TKO of Forrest Griffin at UFC 101

Posted On: August 8, 2009 at 11:09pm

UFC middleweight champ “Spider” Anderson Silva (25-4) left no questions about whose the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world after TKOing Fighters.com’s third-ranked light heavyweight Forrest Griffin (16-6) in the first round at UFC 101 in Philadelphia Saturday night.

“Spider” spent two minutes timing the former UFC light heavyweight champion before making Griffin look downright silly.

Griffin charged at Silva, who consistently left his hands at his waist, and threw a 1-2 combo. Silva dodged the combo and stung Griffing with a single straight right that dropped Griffin and left him flailing.

It was the second time Griffin had been dropped in the fight, previously with a right hook and a straight left.

The referee waved his hands over Griffin, declaring Silva the winner by TKO and a new contender at 205 pounds.

griffin took a dive for sure, not a chance that punch could put a grown man on his arse, something has gone on behind the scenes

One of the knockdowns was a slip, I thought. I could be wrong. I dont have replay. It was a legit TKO. Griffin has a weak chin. Watch the Jardine fight.

hi chad, got your add on fb, thanks! im actually gutted and cannot wait for ufc post fight press conference, ive got some questions id like answering about the whole card! some i feel happened behind the scenes, for forrest to run like that, he was clearly not too effected by the ‘knock-out’ that was not the forrest we all know, it was a shambles and both forrest and the ufc need to address the fans with an explanation

I sure hope Forrest has good excuse like, “A family member had a terrible accident just before I walked into the octagon.”
Anything less, and there is no excuse for a poor effort. Trying to run like that after even a good hit would have me zig-zagging.

i found out that the first knockdown punch dislocated forrest’s jaw so that’s why he was so eager to give up

good win for silva, terrible showing for forrest…and his post fight actions were pathetic signs of sportsmanship or his lack thereof

Forrest didn’t quit. He got TKO’d. That he quit or the fight was thrown are both ridiculous.

he didn’t want to fight anymore because his jaw was dislocated from getting blasted in the face by silva, he could have had serious damage from getting hit in the jaw again, still a tko nonetheless

No, that’s false. The fight was stopped by the referee because Griffin was knocked down three times and was semi-unconcious. The dislocated jaw only contributed to his hasty retreat from the Octagon. If you can find where Griffin says he didn’t want to fight anymore, please send it to me and I’ll post it.

i heard about Griffin’s jaw being dislocated, but i also heard his ear drum popped. That’s why they rushed him to the hospital, anyone else hear this?
