Forrest Griffin on the mend, Calls for Jones vs Silva

Forrest Griffin, the first ever winner of the famed reality series “The Ultimate Fighter”, has become a bit of an entrepreneur in the days he spends outside of the octagon.

While the former light heavyweight champion has been on the mend since having necessary shoulder surgery following his win over Tito Ortiz at UFC 106 in November of last year, he has taken the opportunity to follow up his best selling book “Got Fight?” with another reader-pleaser, and is now en route on a book tour across the country.

The new book, cleverly titled “Be Ready When the Sh*t Goes Down: A Survival Guide to the Apocalypse”, is being sold where all major books can be purchased, and Forrest Griffin is answering any and all questions along with his book tour, and also addressed the issue that Jon Jones is beginning to become in the light heavyweight division.

“That’s just ridiculous,” he said in an interview with WWUZ. “(Vladimir) Matyushenko’s been around a decade. He fought Tito (Ortiz) for 25 minutes. He’s a great guy. So I haven’t really been paying attention, but I keep hearing he’s the next big thing, and I’m inclined to believe it.”

While Griffin is not inclined to take on any fights while he is still healing up from injury, he throws in his two cents, and is campaigning for a Jones-Silva match up.

“I think they should fight. I really do,” said Griffin about a potential bout with Anderson Silva and Jon Jones. “I think that’s a great fight. I think Jones is the next thing, man. I’ve known this for a while, and I thought Brandon Vera would be the test for him.”

So Griffin thinks Silva and Jones should get together, what do you think? Too much, too soon?

    I think it would be a great match up and a great fight to watch. The only problem it would’nt do anything for eaither of them other than cause them to get a bigger wallet. If silva wins it doesn’t matter because he’s not going to go for the LHW title and if Jones wins he beat someone not even in his weight class. It won’t give him a title shot any sooner but it may give him the test he is looking for but I think his ultimate goal is to have that belt. I do miss the Pride open weight grand prix.

    I disagree. No one has been able to beat Anderson at 185 or 205 in the UFC, so it would definitely do a lot more Jones, and most likely warrant him a higher ranking in the 205 pound division, and earn him a title shot, if not a spot close to it.

    For Silva, it doesn’t do a whole lot until Jones fights other people at the top of 205, and looks impressive in doing so. If Jones clears out 205, then it would be a great fight, but we’re years away from seeing that one happening, and Silva might be retired by then, unfortunately.

    But, hey…this is MMA, crazier things have happened.

    No one has been able to beat Silva at 205. I would agree that Irvin who is currently ranked at #51 in LHW is a no one and yes he beat Forrest Griffen who I wouldn’t rank in the top ten right now. So how does that improve his rankings or get him closer to a title shot. I would say he should get a number one contender fight his next fight. With Shogun out for so long I doubt this will happen and he will most likely have to win two fights before he gets the champ. Either way Jones beating Silva won’t get him any closer to a title shot. he should fight the Noguiera/Bader winner and then the Machida/Jackson winner. Since Machida/Jackson would both need a couple wins before a title fight. The LHW division is becoming stacked and Silva’s two wins don’t amount to much.

    @longarm

    It improves him, because he’s the consensus best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, who has no qualms fighting at either 205 or 185…so a win over him is a big deal, regardless if he spends a majority of his time in the middleweight division.

    Jones beating Silva get’s him closer.

    So if Martin Kampman were to beat BJ Penn at 170 it would get Martin closer to a title shot? I don’t think so. He would still need to beat two other top ten guys to get a shot. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be a nice notch on his belt but Silva would get owned by a wrestler like Jones.
